What is hair dirt?

  • Hair dirt is the small particles like impurities, oil, and solids built up on your scalp.
  • For healthy hair growth, you need hair care products that penetrate your scalp.
  • A dirty scalp indicates the accumulation of dirt and dead skin cells.
  • It can cause dandruff in two ways. Due to its presence in excess, the dead skin cells begin to shed, leading to dandruff troubles.

Do you know how to clean your hair?

  • We know that you start to accumulate hair every time you comb your hair.
  • Some break off in the process or fall out to make room for new hair.
  • Either way, we see a lot more build-up than just hair on our brush, so it’s essential to clean it regularly.
  • Carrying out this cleaning and disinfection process will undoubtedly prevent the appearance of alterations affecting the hair or the scalp.
  • In fact, dust particles get stuck there, and oil from the products we use or secreted by the skin, bacteria, and contaminants in the air.
  • Here we will offer you some tips to make the cleaning process more manageable, preventing dirt from accumulating with each use and ending up affecting the hair.

Why is it important to clean the hair dirt?

  • As we said, the hair can turn into a nest of dirt, bacteria, and fungus.
  • We show by studies that have identified that different microorganisms from the environment live on the hair, eyebrows, and beard.
  • Therefore, washing your hair and disinfecting the brush is fundamental to prevent these microorganisms from proliferating.
  • Ideally, we do these two cleanings together because by brushing the clean hair with a dirty brush, we can transfer the bacteria and dirt that are on the latter.

How often we recommend you clean the hair dirt?

  • According to the US Academy of Dermatology, we lose between 50 and 100 hairs per day.
  • The majority end up stuck in the brush. So all you have to do is count: how much hair can accumulate there after a week or a month? Quite a few, isn’t it?
  • That is why, although there are no rules regarding cleaning the hairbrush, it is recommended to clean it frequently.

We can do it in the following way:

  • Once a week, apply many products to your hair, especially sprays or treatments that don’t get rinsed out afterwards.
  • Once every two weeks if you generally have clean hair and use few products, treatments or oils.
  • Either way, you can remove excess hair stuck in your brush every day.

Home remedy for hair dirt

  • Soak it to remove the grime
  • Even if there is no more visible hair, it is necessary to soak the brush in lukewarm water with shampoo or baking soda to remove microorganisms and the grime that is still in the hair.

Spaces that we do not see. Here’s how to do it:

  • Put a little lukewarm water in a plastic container.
  • Add the shampoo or baking soda and mix it so that it dissolves well.
  • For more effective action, use shampoo and baking soda at the same time.
  • If the brush is all plastic, submerge it completely in water and shake it out. Let it soak for five minutes.
  • For brushes that are padded at the handle or elsewhere, this area mustn’t come in contact with the solution we have prepared.
  • In this case, dip the brush in the other direction and ensure that the water level is high enough to get the pins.
  • The previous point applies to wooden brushes.
